Former OLSD parish priest, Fr David Quarmby, died on 26th October 2025. Â
Reverend David James Quarmby was born at St Leonard’s on Sea, Sussex on 8th August 1935. He had a brother who died several years ago. He has a nephew, John Quarmby.
He studied at St Edmund’s, Ware and Allen Hall, before being ordained to the priesthood on 17th June 1962 by Bishop Holland at Portsmouth Cathedral.
Fr Quarmby gave a lifetime of service in various parishes in the Diocese including our own:
1962-1964 Assistant Priest – Christ the King, Reading
1964-1968 Assistant Priest – Gosport
1968-1970 Assistant Priest – St Edmund’s, Abingdon
1970-1972 Assistant Priest – St Edmnund’s, Southampton
1972-1978 Parish Priest – Hedge End
1978-1983 Parish Priest – Our Lady of Lourdes, Cove, Farnborough
1983-1994 Parish Priest – Newport, Isle of Wight
1994-1997 Parish Priest – Yateley
1997-2014 Parish Priest – Highcliffe
He was also Chaplain to the convent on Jersey until his retirement in 2016.
His Requiem Mass takes place on Monday 1st December 2025, 12.15pm at St John’s Cathedral, Portsmouth.
As a parish in thanksgiving and gratitude, Fr Anthony will offer nine masses for the repose of Fr David’s soul.
Let us thank God for his loving service to the people whom he was called to serve. May the Lord grant him eternal rest in the love that he so generously served through his ministry. May he rest in peace.Â
