Bamenda Sunday 2025

The celebration of Bamenda Sunday at Our Lady of Lourdes and St Dominic Savio Parish in Farnborough beautifully reflects the enduring partnership between the Archdiocese of Bamenda in Cameroon and the Diocese of Portsmouth, a link that began in 1974. Rooted in the spirit of Gaudium et Spes from the Second Vatican Council, this diocesan twinning was established to promote solidarity, understanding, and shared faith across continents.

At OLSD Parish, Bamenda Sunday has become much more than a commemoration of this historic connection, it is a joyful expression of unity in diversity. Parishioners come together to celebrate the cultural richness of both dioceses through vibrant liturgy, lively music, colourful traditional dress, and shared meals that highlight the global nature of the Catholic community. The event reminds everyone that the Church is truly universal, one family in Christ that transcends borders.

Through the Bamenda–Portsmouth link, the parish participates in a living mission of love and mutual support. Fundraising initiatives and awareness efforts during Bamenda Sunday help sustain educational and social projects in Bamenda, while parishioners gain a deeper appreciation of the resilience and faith of their Cameroonian brothers and sisters. This exchange not only strengthens spiritual bonds but also brings fresh vitality to the life of the parish, enriching its sense of community and global belonging.

In celebrating Bamenda Sunday, OLSD Parish embraces its call to live out the Gospel message of fellowship and service. The day stands as a testament to how faith shared across cultures can renew and energize a parish, transforming diversity into a source of strength and joy for all.
