Sunday 8th June marked 50 days since Easter and the wonderful celebration of Pentecost when we celebrate the birthday of the Church. But this is no ordinary birthday. It’s not marked by cake or candles, but by wind and fire, tongues and transformation, unity and mission. Fr Anthony explained in his homily how ‘Ruah’ is a Hebrew word that describes the breath of God, the spirit, that moves in the life of every person.
As part of our Pentecost celebration we wanted to celebrate our parish’s diversity. At the 10.30am Mass, we had bidding prayers in 12 different languages and the ‘Our Father’ first sung in Swahili and then everyone joined in speaking in their mother tongue. So powerful!
After the 10.30am Mass, an international shared meal was enjoyed by all. Fr Anthony invited Peter, Graham and Roland, three of our senior parishioners, to pray before we began.
A big thank you to Sharon and all those who helped with the shared meal and to Valerie who organised the international bidding prayers.
