On Sunday 26th October 2025, the Confirmation candidates for 2025/26 met for our first session. This year, we have introduced a brand-new programme called Sycamore and we started with Session 1 – The Search for Happiness. To start the meeting off, Fr Anthony introduced the Catechists for the programme – Michelle, Ann, George, Nicole, James, Bros. Andre & Malachy, and the young Catechists – Guillaume, Alex, Noah, Deacon Maynard and Bethan.
We then lit the candle, had a moment of individual prayer as a group before we said a prayer together written for the session.
After introductions, we started with a quick icebreaker where the candidates were split into groups and had to stand on a blanket and work out how to flip the blanket over without anyone stepping off. This fostered communication between the candidates and got the conversations flowing. We then sat down to watch the first episode of Sycamore. Split into three sections, each section included a video, some questions we discussed in our smaller groups and then a wider discussion with us all.
After the third section, we discussed the YOUCAT readings that the candidates read before the session and identified what inspired us, what challenged us, what we didn’t understand and what we did not know.
We then brought the session to a close with a prayer before the candidates departed.
