This year’s OLSD cricket season has only this week taken off. We were not able to play our first two fixtures thanks to player unavailability and rain, but this Wednesday, 10th June 2026, the OLSD players sprung into action with a welcome victory against the team from the Prince of Wales pub, Rectory Road Farnborough (POW v OLSD).
The match was played on a largely sunny but fresh evening at Watchetts Park Camberley. OLSD have been recruiting hard with our Ministry Lead for Diversity and Culture, Valerie, scouring her contacts for cricket-loving family members across the parish.
Owing to injuries and unavailability we were still two players short as POW kindly suggested we batted first. Our newest recruit, Luke, was sent in to open and he held the innings together with a massive contribution of 28. With only 68 on the board we had lost all our batters and POW again very kindly gave Enrico our captain, who had been out first ball, another chance to bat. He and Prejosh managed another 21 runs to make a total of 89 from our 20 overs.
This seemed a low total to defend, but amazingly, and against a strong batting POW line-up, OLSD put together some very strong bowling and an almost flawless fielding performance. Enrico bowled out five POW players, and Ed and Luke both took two catches each – these were just the highlights. Kieran, Mijosh and Prejosh also took wickets and Loretta conceded only 10 runs from her four overs. POW were all out for 62 so OLSD won by 27 runs. If POW had not been so generous with Enrico the game would have been much closer (six runs would have been the difference).
All parties really enjoyed the match – the games between POW and OLSD are always played in a really good, friendly yet competitive spirit and both sides repaired to the Prince of Wales pub to talk about the match and share a beer.

Our next match is against our friends from St Peter’s Parish Church Farnborough. We play on 25th June 2026 at Frimley Lodge Park. We would really encourage anyone looking for an interesting evening out in the park sunshine to come along. Our matches start at 6.00pm and last until about 8.30pm. If you are interested in supporting, umpiring or scoring you will be especially welcome. But we always need more players.
