The OLSD Cricket team played five matches this year with one match being cancelled.
We had some enjoyable moments and the nicest part was welcoming some new players to the team, especially Ginto and Tyson.
We play local sides on Thursday evenings in the summer and this year generally the weather was kind and by some sort of divine providence it transpired that we just about found a team to play each time so that we never turned away anyone who wanted to play for us.
The results – this season we struggled to win, but we came up against strong opposition and sometimes things just don’t work out – fine margins! But what was fantastic was our team spirit led by our Captain Enrico.Â
29 May – v Prince of Wales – lost by 3 wickets
26 June v St Peter’s – lost by 54 runs
3 July v St Peter’s lost by 48 runs
10 July v Prince of Wales – won by 15 runs
24 July v EASAMS – lost by 4 wickets
Let me set out a few highlights
Shot of the season – goes to Tyson for his monumental six in our final match which cleared the Fleet Cricket club pavilion, car park and ended up in a neighbouring garden!
Most improved batter – goes to Andy Norman for consistently contributing 20 plus runs – his best ever season.
Fielding of the season – goes to all our players for trying so hard.
Supporter of the season – goes to Charmaine who came with her baby Lorenzo and top fan Alessia! to nearly every game in support of her husband Enrico and brother Marcello.
Gesture of the season – goes to the Prince of Wales pub who laid on strawberries and cream for our players who were enjoying a post-match drink.
Here’s to 2026!
