Farnborough Abbey – Then & Now

Thursday 12th June we had  our monthly Mamma Margherita meeting.

We meet in the hall at 2pm.  Once subs had been paid, and greetings made, I opened the meeting with the sad news that Hazel Giles died suddenly a few days after our May meeting.  Hazel was a regular at our group, we remember her in our prayers.

We welcomed two new members to our group, and a big thank you to Mary Burgess who is joining the core group – many hands make light work.

Eileen O’Connell gave us a talk on the history of Farnborough Abbey accompanied with photos from before the restoration.  This is to be followed with a visit to the Abbey on July 3rd which I am greatly looking forward to. Thank you, Eileen.

Refreshments were served while we had a some time to chat with friends old and new before the raffle and  notices were given.

Thought of the day was led by Judith Lavelle, a rousing sing-along connecting us to two readings from the Bible. Inspiring thoughts, thank you Judith.

This brought us to the end of our meeting.

I am looking forward to our July meeting when Jackie Dimmock, an ex-police officer, is coming to give one of her talks on her time on the force.

Hats for Seafarers Update

The prize for the most prolific knitters (if there were one!) would go to Mamma Margherita Fellowship members Monique Parker and new member Gaynor Cainey who between them have knitted 14 wonderful, warm, colourful hats for seafarers.

These will be posted off to Stella Maris Southampton port next week and will soon be distributed to grateful seafarers.

This call for knitted hats is not just for older parishioners. Anyone who has the time to share their gifts in this way, please contact seniors@olsd.org.uk for the pattern.
