On Tuesday 23 April 2024 we held our fourth meeting for our First Holy Communion children’s parents.  The theme of the meeting was Eucharist.  Fr Anthony opened the meeting by talking about the “real presence.”  The understanding that the children are actually receiving Jesus’ body and blood in the Eucharist.

Mary then spoke about some practicalities for the approaching First Holy Communion celebrations.  Specifically, about what the children should wear, a reminder that parents and guests should not take photos during Mass and that the children should be dropped off at the hall on the day of the celebration whilst their families quietly take their allocated seats in church.  She also encouraged parents to practice at home with the children holding their hands out to receive Communion and to correctly and carefully make the sign of the cross.

Fr Anthony continued the meeting talking to the parents about the importance of continuing the memory.  That is, continuing to receive Communion beyond the celebration days.  “Do this in memory of me.”  Blessed Carlo Acutis declared the Eucharist as our “Highway to Heaven” and Fr Anthony spoke about how this young man had a powerful message, especially for young people, in attracting them to the Eucharist.  He encouraged parents to share with their children information about Carlo.
