Liturgy & Worship

Making the Liturgy Come Alive

Martin Wood

The Liturgy & Worship Ministry supports our Priest and Deacon in planning and running the core liturgical functions of the church to achieve our Mission objectives in bringing people to Jesus through prayer. We help plan well-organised, meaningful and animated liturgies from regular Weekday and Sunday Mass to the more elaborate liturgies for Christmas and Easter. Our Altar Servers assist the priest in celebrating Mass, and our Eucharistic Ministers help with the distribution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at Mass and take it to the homes of our housebound parishioners. We support our Priest when required at Funerals, Weddings and other Services. We liaise on the duties of Welcomers and collaborate with other Ministries particularly Spirituality and Prayer.

Key Initiatives

  1. To plan and deliver high quality Formation and Training for Ministers across Readers, EMHC and Altar Servers.
  2. To widen leadership roles in the Music Ministry to empower more Ministers and mprove capacity to expand change and focus on youth and recruit young instrumentalists and singers.
  3. To migrate the organisation and rotas of Welcomers to the Hospitality Ministry whilst retaining involvement in the co-ordination of the various liturgical Ministers.
  4. To collaborate with Diversity and Culture Ministry to make our Liturgies more inclusive.
  5. To recruit a panel of occasional organists for Sundays and Special Events.
