Christmas 2009

Christmas celebrations began this year with the Children’s Mass at 6pm on Christmas Eve.  Here are some pictures from the Mass.

Christingle Service - 20 December 2009

During Children’s Liturgy today the children made Christingles, held a short service  and brought the Christingles into the church during the Offertory.

A Christingle consists of:

  • an orange representing the world
  • a red ribbon around it representing the blood of Jesus
  • fruit and nuts skewered on cocktail sticks pushed into the orange representing the fruits of the earth and the four seasons
  • a lighted candle pushed into the centre of the orange, representing Jesus Christ as the light of the world.

Advent Carol Service - 13 December 2009

The Parish Choir was joined by the Chobham St Lawrence Bellringers and the Ladies ‘Singing for Fun’ group for a joyful, musical and thought-provoking carol service.  A full church enjoyed a variety of well-known and more unusual carols and joined in with the community carols with enthusiasm.  After the service, mince pies and mulled wine were served in the Parish Hall.

Thoughtful meditations were read by parishioners Yvette McLeod and Pam Augier:

Parish Fun Day a Sunny Success - 19 September 2009

Parishioners and friends enjoyed a  fantastic Fun Day - the September sun shone and there were lots of activities and entertainment in the grounds of St Bernadette’s School.  Thank you to all those who helped to make it such a special day and particularly to Sarah and Karen who organised the Day.  Details of how much we made will be posted here when available

Bishop Crispian Visit - 14 June 2009

Bishop Crispian visited the Parish on Sunday 14 June.  He celebrated Mass at 10.00 am and joined parishioners for coffee afterwards. He officially opened the new parish hall and was entertained by our wonderful ladies choir led by Lesley Evans.  Later in the day he met with members of the Parish to share views.

Cove Village Fayre - 30 May 2009

Cove Village Fayre. Saturday 30 May 2009 was a bright sunny day and many local people enjoyed the Fayre. There was a beautiful flower festival in St Christopher's Church, a variety of food stalls at Cove Methodist Church, local police and a fire engine at the Old Courthouse pub. There were games for the children and scarecrows all over the place. People were entertained by Morris Dancers, Irish dancing and a Gospel choir. On Sunday 31 May there was an outdoor service at Tower Hill school followed by a picnic lunch. A good time was had by all. In fact it was so good that next year's Fayre has been fixed for Saturday 5 June 2010 - and we might close the road and have go-cart racing!

First Communion - 7 June 2009

37 children from our Parish took their First Holy Communion on Sunday 7 June in the Chapel at Farnborough Hill.

This special Mass was the culmination of 9 months preparation by the children, their parents and their catechists.  The children were very involved in the Mass - reading clearly, singing beautifully and doing the offertory procession. Congratulations to all the children and thank you to all those who helped with preparation and organisation.
